Glass Glass vs Glass Foil

GLASS GLASS OR DOUBLE GLASS SOLAR PANELS

the most durable and high performance solar solution

changing the solar industry for the better

Generally speaking, a traditional solar panel had one layer of glass. But since a few years, brands have also been producing glass glass or double glass panels

The difference between the two is obvious: a double glass solar panel uses two layers of glass instead of the usual single layer combined with a laminated backsheet (a foil). The solar cells are in fact encapsulated between two layers of tempered glass, bonded together using a special encapsulant. This protects the solar cells from moisture, dust and other environmental factors such as hail, snow and high winds. In addition, these solar panels usually have a better resistance to UV radiation and perform better in high temperature areas.

It’s therefore only a short step to claim that this type of panel has an extended lifespan. Ultimately, this results in a greater energy output over the long term. The improved design and construction also contributes to this.

And while double glass solar panels clearly have some indisputable performance benefits, there’s also much to say about the aesthetics. Why? They have a frameless design and a sleek, modern look. Knowing that most potential buyers find the look of a solar panel extremely important, this is an exceptionally interesting benefit that you should definitely consider.

But what about the weight of these panels? It is true that double glass panels are heavier than glass-foil panels, but that doesn’t affect safety or functionality at all. On the contrary, double glass panels provide greater safety, since tempered glass is much less likely to shatter, even if it means they’re heavier.
